April 13 Update: The Catch the Spirit Camps are fast approaching and there is still space for more swimmers at both camps! The application deadline is April 20, but the camp director will accept applications until the camps are full. There is a 50 swimmer maximum at each camp. Please also see below for further updates about the camps.

USA Swimming and New England Swimming will host two Catch the Spirit Camps on May 8, 2004. Please read the description of each camp below and look for more information to come on the New England Swimming web site. Camp applications must be postmarked by April 20th (applications will be accepted until the camps are full).

Saturday, May 8th (Level I and Level II) - Mount Holyoke College
The camp is a level I & II format. Swimmers applying to this level camp must be 9 to 12 years old with times not faster than New England Swimming Regional time standards. This camp is designed to address the needs of the fairly new competitive swimmer. The one-day camp will consist of two water practices in which basic technique; starts and turns will be emphasized. Classroom sessions will include drills and biomechanics, nutrition, sportsmanship, practice preparation and USA Swimming history. The camp will be held at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley , Massachusetts. The head coach is Laura Matuszak from GMA. Camp applications will be available on the New England Swimming web site. The cost for the camp is $20.00 for the day. All swimmers will receive a camp t-shirt and swim cap along with great memories and skills!

There will also be a Parent's Meeting led by coach Laura Matuszak, which will run from 1:15 - 4:15pm, and will cover:

Registration for this camp begins at 8:30am and the camp concludes by 5:00pm. A packet of information will be mailed out to swimmers after April 20.

Saturday, May 8th (Level III) - Northeastern University
Thiss camp is a level III format. Swimmers must be 10 to 14 years old with at least two Age Group Championship or Open qualifying times. The level III camp's focus is on creating a learning environment for more advanced competitors to focus on such things as goal setting, visualization, relaxation and racing strategies as well as leadership. The camp staff will fit in all of these team meetings along with two water practices focusing on two strokes per practice. Classroom sessions will include a biomechanics presentation utilizing underwater footage from the Sydney 2000 Olympics, nutrition, goal setting and visualization, leadership and peer pressure, and USA Swimming history. The camp will be held at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts . The head coach is Roy Coates, head swim coach at Northeastern. Camp applications will be available on the New England Swimming web site. The cost is $20.00 for the day. All swimmers will receive a camp t-shirt and swim cap along with great memories and skills!
