FORMAT:  All events will be seeded during warm-ups and swum as timed finals.  Swimmers should report directly to the blocks for their events.  Coaches are responsible for ensuring their swimmers are in the correct heat and lane to facilitate a smooth running meet.  Free Relays must be declared by the end of the IM events of each session.  Swimmers in the 200 Freestyle may be combined into heats for efficiency if deemed necessary by meet management.  

 

SCRATCHES:  Coaches should check in with the meet directors and pick up coaches packets upon arrival.  No deck entries accepted.  Coaches must scratch those swimmers who are not in attendance at the meet warm-up to facilitate efficient seeding.  Coaches must turn in scratch sheets 30 minutes after the start of warm-ups for each session.  The scratch sheets will be used to appropriately seed events by computer.  Heat and lane assignments will be posted and provided to coaches after scratches are submitted by all coaches.   

 

FACILITY: This state of the art facility consists of 10 competition lanes, 25 yards each with non-turbulent lane lines and 6+ feet depth at both finish and turn ends of the pool.  Fully-automatic Colorado Time Systems electronic timing with touchpads at the finish end of the pool with 10 lane electronic display.  The approx 6 x 25 yard diving end of the pool is available for individual warmup and warmdown. (Timing and results displays are accomplished by Colorado® Timing.)  Outdoor shoes are not permitted on the pool deck.  Spectator seating for more approximately 1200.   Glass is not permitted on deck, in the bleachers or locker rooms. Smoking is not permitted anywhere in the building.  Natatorium is in Middlebury College Athletic Complex, Middlebury College, Route 30, Middlebury, VT  05753.
 

Your cooperation in respecting the use of the Middlebury College Natatorium  and facilities is required and appreciated.  Middlebury College, Middlebury Area Swimming Association, Inc. and the Middlebury Marlins Swim Team assume no responsibility for lost or stolen property.  Swimmers and spectators must remain in the pool venue, locker rooms, spectator and concession areas.  All other areas, including the hockey arena, basketball venue and training areas, are strictly off limits to visitors.  This includes swimmers, coaches, officials, timers and spectators. Teams are advised to share this information with their swimmers and families.  ANYONE NOT ABIDING BY THE RULES OF MIDDLEBURY COLLEGE AS ENFORCED BY THE MEET DIRECTORS WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE.

 

MASA will run a concession. No food or beverages, other than water, will be allowed in the bleachers, on deck, or in the locker rooms. Any food or beverages being consumed in these areas will be removed.

 

COURSE:  Short course yards (25 yards)

 

SESSIONS:  I - Morning:  8 and under, 10 and under, male and female.
                                            Warm-up: 07:15 AM       Meet begins:  08:30 AM
                      II – Afternoon:  11-12, 13-14, Open/Sr, male and female
                                            Warm-up:  12:30 PM      Meet begins:  1:45 PM
DIVING WILL BE PROHIBITED DURING WARM-UPS EXCEPT IN SPECIFICALLY ANNOUNCED ONE-WAY SPRINT LANES.  THERE WILL BE NO DIVING IN THE WARM-UP AND WARM-DOWN AREAS AT ANY TIME.  See event list for 200 FR warmup. 

 

ELIGIBILITY: All contestants must be 2003 registered athletes with U.S. Swimming. New England Swimmers may register with Mary Riddell at the New England Swimming Office, 20 Cleveland Rd., Needham, MA 02492, 781-449-0270, office@neswim.com.  Age eligibility is determined by the age of the swimmer the day of the meet and must be shown on the entry form.  Disabled swimmer forms are required by US Swimming and are available from the New England Swimming office.  All coaches on deck must be registered with USS and present their coach membership cards.

 

ENTRIES: Entries will be received starting Friday, January 17, 2003 and MUST BE RECEIVED BY 6:00 p.m. on Friday, January 24, 2003.  All entries must be submitted on the standard New England Swimming entry forms with a signed summary sheet, or by e-mail or disk using a Hy-Tek entry file (.c12 or HY3) and hard copy back-up using Hy-Tek computer programs.  Zipped files are preferred.  Electronic entries are appreciated and are less expensive.  Please ensure that team address and contact information are entered correctly in the file, as this information will be used as your team contact for meet information. 

 

E-mail entries:  Attach .c12 file to message.  Payment, hardcopy of entry, and signed Summary sheet and Waiver must be received within 4 days of receipt of the e-mail entry.  If the payment is received within 4 days of the e-mail entry, the date of receipt of the entry file will be considered the date your entry for the meet was received by Middlebury Area Swimming Association.  If payment is not received within 4 days, the entry will be considered received as of the date that the payment and hard copy are received.

Disk entries must be accompanied by payment, hard copy, signed summary and waiver.

Manual entries must be accompanied by NES standard entry forms, payment, signed summary and waiver.

 

ENTRY LIMITS:  Swimmers may swim no more than five individual events.

Check should be made payable to MASA – one check per team.  No individual checks.

 

ENTRY TIMES:  All entries must be specified in short-course yard (25-yard pool) times.  Entry times achieved in a 25 meter pool must be multiplied by .9049 to convert to yards.

 

ENTRY TIME UPDATES:  Time updates will be accepted until 6p.m. the Monday before the meet if received by email and in Hy-tek CL2 entry file listing identical to original entries.

 

ENTRY CUTS:  Entry cuts, if necessary, will be made by the date of receipt.  Teams will be notified that they have been accepted or cut from the meet within 7 days of receipt of entry.  If the meet becomes oversubscribed, a team lottery between those teams submitting entries on the date that filled the meet will be used to determine which of these teams will participate in the meet.  Notification of such cuts will be made by  Monday, January 27, 2003 and entry fees will be returned.

 

RELAYS:  Relays will be limited to 2 relays per team per event.  All relay swimmers must be officially entered in the meet.

 

25-YARD EVENTS:  Please note that 8 and under  25 yard events will be swum off the deck from the turn end of the pool into the touchpads to take advantage of the electronic timing, unless touchpads are available for 6 lanes at both ends in which case these events will be swum off the starting blocks in 6 lane heats.

 

OFFICIALS: Volunteer officials are needed to ensure a smoothly run meet.  All teams should submit with their entries the names of registered officials, their phone numbers, and sessions available to work.  Officials must display current USS registration on deck. 

TIMERS: All teams are requested to assist in providing timers.

SAFETY:  All team and individual warm-up and warm-down shall be under the direct supervision of the respective swimmers' coach, or individual designated by the referee.  Any swimmer participating in the meet without a US Swimming registered coach shall report to the referee before warm-ups prior to each session.   There will be no shaving at any venue of this meet including the locker rooms, bathrooms, shower areas, pool deck, or bleachers.  Glass containers are prohibited on the pool deck and in the bleachers and locker rooms. 

 

RULES:  2003 USA Swimming rules will govern all competition.  The decision of the meet referees will be final unless a written protest is lodged within 30 minutes of the heat swum. 

 

ADMISSION:  Free

 

PROGRAMS:  Psych Programs for the entire meet will be available for $3.

DECK ACCESS: Only athletes, coaches, officials, and official meet staff are permitted on the pool deck.  All non-athletes on the pool deck must display their USA Swimming registration card at all times.  Individuals without their USA Swimming registration card will be removed from the pool deck, and will be subject to a fine by New England Swimming.

 

SCORING: The meet will not be scored.

 

AWARDS: Individual events:  Medals 1st through 3rd place, ribbons 4th through 6th. Relay events:  Medals 1st place, ribbons 2nd and 3rd place.
 

DIRECTIONS and PARKING:  Route 7 to Middlebury.  Take Route 30 S from the town green for approximately ½ mile.  Pass the Middlebury College Center for the Arts on the left and take the 2nd left into the Athletic Complex parking lot.  Enter the main lobby with the taller glass entry and proceed straight ahead to the pool venue.  Free Parking is available adjacent to the Athletic Complex and behind the Center for the Arts.

 

COACHES NOTES:  Coaches and parents are responsible for their swimmers at all times.  Any damage to the premises or equipment is the responsibility of those doing the damage.  Swimmers and spectators are restricted to the pool venue, locker rooms, spectator and concession areas.  All other areas, including the hockey arena, basketball venue and training areas, are off limits.  Signs and barriers will be posted.  These rules include swimmers, coaches, officials, timers and spectators.  If your swimmer or team affiliates are found in unauthorized areas, there will be no warnings.  ANYONE REFUSING TO ABIDE BY THE RULES OF MIDDLEBURY COLLEGE AS ENFORCED BY THE MEET DIRECTORS WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE THE MEET!  Coaches are advised to share this information with their swimmers and families.
